The Maldon Rock Oyster is sustainably grown and harvested from our traditional oyster beds in the River Blackwater, Maldon, Essex. UK.
They have a distinct flavour and meatiness inherent from the salt marshes where they are grown, and are excellent on the half shell, pan-fried or even baked with a variety of toppings or sauces.
These delicious bi-valves are cultivated from seed and left to grow at a natural pace in bags fastened to racks to keep them away from natural predators lurking on the river bed. In the nutritious, marshy environment of the blackwater river, they will take approximately three years to reach market size (80-110g). Thereafter, they are carefully harvested, washed, and placed into tanks at our state-of-the-art depuration facility at Cock Clarks.
All our oysters are picked, graded and packed by hand into food grade wooden boxes.
Store in a cool, dry place or in the fridge. Do not store in water or on ice.
Consume within 5 days of delivery – the oyster must be alive when shucked i.e. shell firmly shut.
All oysters are molluscs and therefore a food Allergen.
